We all believe something. We all have opinions and views, and whether we notice it or not we live our lives by what we believe. Many have their beliefs because their religion and many have their beliefs from science. We are all on a quest for truth and understanding, or just a way to explain our life. How do we discover truth? Where does it come from? What is defined as true? How do we know what is true? In the history of the world there has been wars fought and lives taken over the very question of what is true or right. World War II, Hitler believed the Aryan was the supreme race and all others must be killed off; The Crusades were fought over which religion was true; Extreme Islamic terrorists believe that all “infidels” must be killed because they do not believe in Islam. If people are willing to kill and fight over their what they believe to be true it must be a big deal right?Those are just extreme examples to, lets look at our daily life. Gossiping for instance, now no one likes to be criticized or made fun of, but then when someone is mean to us or we think they act weird we are more then happy to talk about it. What makes it okay for us to talk about others, but not others to talk about us? How is it we feel justified in putting down others because they put down us? We all need to look at our selves and ask “what is truly right?” If we look at our own self and consider what the effects of our actions will be, we can see that we are not as justified for many things as we believe we should be. How often I have been hurt by someone and then scold them because of they did to me, but what use is that? Am I any different than them if I hurt them back? Am I justified? What makes it okay for me to hurt and not them?In order for us to find truth, there needs to be an absolute of some kind. But where do we find that absolute? That is why so many people believe in a certain religion, or hold a certain worldview. Out of all the religions and worldviews in this world, which is right? Can more than one be right? So many now days want to be “politically correct” or believe our beliefs are all relative, now do not get me wrong I think that everyone is entitled to believe what they want to believe, but can they all be true? All religions cannot be true because they just do not match up; for example: Judaism believe in the Old testament but not the New testament saying that Jesus was just a man and not the son of God, Christianity believe that Jesus is the son of God, they both can’t be right. But who is right? This is a question that has been fought over not only just between these two groups, but between many others as well. If we want to find truth and understanding it is our duty to search for it ourselves and not just believe whatever is said to us. I encourage anyone who reads this to search for truth and hold firm in what they believe.
